Software Organiser Frequently Asked Questions
What is Software Organiser?
Software Organiser has been designed by software licensing professionals with over 30 years experience, Software Organiser is a true licence management solution. Software Organiser accepts data directly from your audit tool and will enable you to reconcile your license status more easily. Software Organiser does not audit PCs; it enhances your investment in your audit by extending the usefulness of audit data.
I have an audit tool -
why do I need Software Organiser?
Most audit tools provide a single field where you can enter the total number of licenses that you have for each application, in reality software licensing is more complex to manage. One license may cover a number of applications, licenses may have been upgraded or the license may cover multiple versions of the same application.
We do not have an audit
tool?
The gathering of Software Licenses and reconciliation process will take significantly more time than the audit process. Reconciliation should begin on Day 1 with the collection and catalogue of your Proof of Entitlement.
What audit tools can I
import my data from?
Software Organiser can import data from any source which is able to export data in CSV format. The import routine is designed to map the columns from the CSV to the matching entries in Software Organiser installed applications table.
Can Software Organiser
manage my Maintenance Renewals?
Maintenance renewal dates and expiry dates on licenses such as shareware can be managed within Software Organiser.
What about Software Risk
Management?
Assess the risk to your business with Software Organiser and assign a priority rating from which you begin your reconciliation.
What should I do with
Software Licenses we no longer use?
Store & register them in Software Organiser, there may be an opportunity at a later date to use them in a cross-grade purchasing scheme or you may wish to update the product to a later version.
Can I manually enter
data?
Software Organiser also provides the facility for manually entering application data, e.g. where an audit tool cannot identify Client Access Licenses (CALs), you can manually enter this information to reconcile with your software license proof.
Why can’t I keep my Licence details in a Spreadsheet?
Some Companies set-up a spreadsheet or database to record license information, but this can be very difficult to maintain e.g. it will not provide a link between upgraded licenses.
